Frequently asked questions and answers
Please refer to the Installation procedure for more information or Contact us with your question.
- What are the cornices and profiles made of?
- Our profiles are made from high-density, extruded closed-cell polystyrene (XPS). This foam differs from normal polystyrene in that it is not made up of little balls fused together, but has a beautiful smooth finish.
- In what lengths are the sections made?
- Our profiles come in 2m lengths for better storage, handling and installation.
- How are the profiles fitted?
- Our cornicing is glued with water-based acrylic adhesive either to a raw surface or over your existing coving (using a larger size), or within the existing coving where possible
- How do you cut and join the cornice profiles
- Lengths of cornice are mitred (for corners), or butt-joined to the next profile and the wall surface simutaneously during the installation process
- What paints can be used on Profiles 4 Deco cornicing?
- Our polystyrene cornice can be painted (check your adhesive and filler manufacturer recommendations for how long glue / filler needs to fully set). Any water based or acrylic paints can be used to paint on Profiles 4 Deco polystyrene cornice directly, but using a primer will result in an improved finish. As primer, Dulux prepcoat is a good option with Resene ceiling paint to finish. NB. DO NOT USE SOLVENT BASED PAINTS. THESE WILL DAMAGE THE CORNICE. Should it be necessary to use solvent based paint, two coats of a PVA or primer / sealer should be applied and allowed to dry completely before painting. If uncertain about your paint, test it first by painting a little on a piece of waste cornice and allowing it to stand for a few hours.
- How do you keep the cornice in place?
- P4D Cornices are extremely light, no screws or nails are required to hold them in place. If your wall or ceiling surfaces are uneven and therefor require more adhesive, panel pins can be used to temporarily hold the cornice in place until adhesive is dry.
